What is your advice about? Consistency

Start building routines from the very start. Let them know what you want early on, set the boundaries – it means less work later on.

Be consistent in your setting of homework. You’re more able to spot non-completers if there’s a set lesson everyone’s supposed to hand it in.

Keep sanctions predictable. If talking during silent work is always 20 minutes after school; only the brave and the stupid will continue to do so.

Develop your marking style and stick to it. Whatever system you use, if students receive feedback in a familiar way they’re more likely to act on it.

Know when to break that consistency. Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
