What is your advice about? Communication

Don’t succumb to ‘death by email!’ You will be inundated with emails that are not relevant to you – delete those you do not need to read immediately!

Speak to your colleagues – they have years of experience doing what you are starting to do. Use every opportunity to get their support.

Use your mentor and Head of Department – there should be NOTHING they are not prepared to help you with! There is no such thing as a stupid question.

Get parents on side as soon as possible – make 3 positive phone calls right at the end of the week to leave school on a high.

Take every opportunity to talk to your students – use the end of every lesson to keep students behind to discuss challenging behaviour, to thank them or to praise.
