What is your advice about? What to do before starting your first job

  1. Prepare a survival pack. Include tissues, hand gel, cough sweets etc. Keep it somewhere safe when you move into your new room
  2. Try and visit your new school to get copies of schemes of work etc. That way you can catch up on topics, new texts etc.
  3. Read widely about workload management and well-being (plug for #teacher5aday). Start your new job with healthy habits so you don’t burn out by Christmas.
  4. Don’t spend lots of your own money on lots of notebooks, folders, pens, stickers etc. A couple of things are useful but wait until you start to find what you need.
  5. Relax- people may say you’ll not have a life in your NQT year, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Enjoy your summer and recharge for a challenging but rewarding year.
