What is your advice about? Professional Development

1: Never stop learning – read about teaching, pedagogy, psychology, your “subject”.

2: Own your personal development.  Pitch to SLT the courses / development you want as opposed to being a passenger on “whole school” sheep-dips.

3: Be evidence based.  Only implement interventions when there is evidence to support the claimed impact.

4: Create a blog as a reflective journal of your thoughts / ideas.

5: Junk the energy zappers – don’t huddle in corners bemoaning SLT.  Present solutions and ideas, not complaints.

1. Continue to do professional reading (it’s not just for university).
2. Join Twitter and be an active user. Follow teachers and learn from them.
3. Observe other teachers as much as possible throughout your career.
4. Be open to feedback and advice.
5. Surround yourself with good teacher role models.
